8/1/2016 12:00:00 AM

Civic Holiday began in 1875 when the province of Ontario introduced a summer holiday for workers. According to historian Desmond Morton, it would be a loan to our American neighbors, who took advantage of a holiday for picnics and excursions by train and steamboat.

The traditional holiday of the 1st Monday of August was quickly spread under different names in the neighboring provinces:

  • British Columbia Day in British Columbia
  • Alberta: Heritage Day
  • Ontario, Nunavut, Manitoba and Northwest Territories: Civic Holiday
  • Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Natal Day
  • New Brunswick: New Brunswick Day

The SGT Group wishes you a good Civic Holiday!

World Day for Safety and Health at Work

4/28/2016 12:00:00 AM

Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work. This is subject matter is at the core of our concerns.

We take this opportunity to inform you about heavy vehicle blind spots, for your safety and the safety of drivers, it is important to be alert on the roads.

The SAAQ has an awareness campaign on this topic that explains exactly where these blind spots are. They are located at the front, sides and rear of the vehicle:
1. At the front: the longer the hood, the bigger the blind spot. A small car could fit in this spot undetected.
2. On the sides: since visibility on the sides is limited by blind spots, the driver has only rearview mirrors to rely on. If you don’t see the driver's eyes through the window or in the mirrors, he doesn’t see you.
3. At the rear: the rear blind spot is very long. It is important to pay attention when a truck is backing up.*

Here is a short video released by the SAAQ to explain the blind spots of heavy vehicles:

Drive carefully!
